Hi, Giselle Medina here! I'm a freelance journalist who writes about all things culture, from food to music to social media trends. My passion for writing about food began with my food Instagram. It was my creative outlet not only for reviewing hidden gems in Queens, N.Y., but also for showcasing my own recipes.
From mid-2023 to 2024, I️ was the Associate Editor at Spoon University, writing over 100 articles, including food reviews on casual restaurant chains, trending food news stories, recipes, and explainers on food debates. My central focus was mining through social media platforms and food outlets for trending food topics to pitch as news stories or features for both the writers and me. I️ provided editorial services to college student writers at Spoon University, helping them produce high-quality articles for publication. I️ aimed to provide helpful feedback and edits to the writers that strengthened their writing. Before then, I️ wrote for Fan to Band, Consumer Reports, Heritage Radio Network, and the Mott Haven Herald.
In December 2022, I️ received my M.A. in Journalism from the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism, with a concentration in Arts & Culture. I️ received a B.A. in December 2020 from Bernard M. Baruch College, where I studied Creative Writing and Journalism with a minor in English. (A CUNY academic through and through!)
